Give it to me and I will read. It's been that way since I discovered The Boxcar Children in 4th grade. My taste in books is EXTREMELY ecclectic---anything and everything. I especially like anything paranormal or filled with magic. I love used book stores, as is evident by my to be read shelf----it's 4 feet tall and PACKED with books.
I'm an Army Brat and books were always there no matter where we lived. I spent all my time either at the library or reading the books I'd checked out so I could go back and get more. When I was 13, I started reading Harlequin romances. I remember sitting on the couch reading one day when my Dad walked through. He stopped and asked me what I was reading. I told him. He was
about to get upset about it when my Mom said, "Your mother reads those books." So much for getting upset. *snicker* In high school it was historical romances--John Jakes being the 1st. Of course, I kept them covered so Daddy couldn't see what I was reading.
My biggest influence when it came to reading historicals was a bachelor cousin who taught history. He liked to read them to see if he could find any historical mistakes. I started doing the same thing and I haven't slowed down since.
I am a single mom with 2 sons. I've passed my love of reading on to them. My older son was reading The Boxcar Children in Kindergarten and my younger son at 13 started really enjoying reading...better late than never, I say. My love of reading is one of the factors that led to me becoming a teacher.
I teach severe/profound Special Education and go to a "regular ed" 5th grade classroom once a week to read to them. I give books to my sons, niece and nephew as gifts and just because, so I like to keep up with juvenile literature.
My tall, dark and handsome hero hasn't shown up yet.....hmmm must be caught in traffic. So for now, I'll raise my sons, feed my cats and read my books.
