Peggy Johnson
Peggy received her first hardback, The Night Before Christmas, when she was three years old. While in grade school, she worked in the school library shelving books and finally marking the spines with the Dewey Decimal System. What a thrill! All through high school, not required reading was at the top of her list. College came in her mid and late 20’s. It is a miracle that she was able to sing “Madame Butterfly” for her senior recital with the plot of the latest Woodiwiss and Rogers running thru her mind.
Having children did not slow her down. She found that her first daughter, at the age of six months, would play very quietly while Gone With The Wind was read out loud. Well, any excuse is a good one when it comes to reading.
Serious and almost frantic reading (close to 6 books a week) started five years ago; traveling extensively as a consultant left many hours alone in strange airports and hotel rooms. The result is a bedroom/library that now consists of almost 3000 paperbacks and over 1000 hardbacks. On a trip to Scotland, she had to buy another piece of luggage just to bring her books home. Plans are to build another room or just move into the barn. This decision is still under consideration.
Peggy now spends her days working with the state judicial system. She enjoys visits from her four grandchildren to her peaceful rural South Carolina home and still finds time to work with Meals on Wheels, travel for pleasure, and has etched every piece of clear glass she owns.
