Summer Replacement
...a fun story about a teenage summer romance.

Summer Replacement

Hard Shell Word Factory

February 2004

Ann Herrick

Cathy Price was not happy that she had to spend the summer with her family in Chatfield. Cathy wanted to stay at home and maybe get to see more of Dan Stedman. Dan had finally noticed her the last day of school and Cathy hoped to build on that and make him forget about his girlfriend Lisa Kendall. But now that she was going to the beach maybe she could find some boys to flirt with and be able to get Dan to notice her when she gets back.

When Cathy gets to Chatfield her mother sends her down to the store to get some sodas for everyone. Once inside the store Cathy couldn't find the soda cooler so she asked a clerk where it was. When the clerk answered her she thought the voice sounded familiar. When he turned around Cathy nearly died. It was Dan Stedman. Cathy got her soda and left the store. Dan Stedman was at Chatfield. How long was he going to be there? Cathy got her answers later that night when Dan and his family came over for a cookout. Dan was going to be there all summer long. Then Dan tells her about some girls in the town bothering him at his job. He hoped that they wouldn't get him fired. So Cathy came up with a brilliant idea of her pretending to be his girlfriend. There were fringe benefits of Dan's kisses. Maybe Cathy could make it permanent after the summer.

Summer Replacement is a fun story about a teenage summer romance. I had my daughter read this story and tell me what she thought about it. She said that she really liked it and didn't want it to end. I agree with her. Ann Herrick has written a wonderful story that draws you into it, and you want to go on and spend more time with the characters. Summer Replacementis a story you should put on your summer reading list. So get a copy of it and enjoy.
