The Earl of Her Dreams
Avon Books
November 2006Anne Mallory
Wouldn't it be romantic to be holed up in a cozy roadside inn during a blizzard with a charming, handsome man to warm your bed? For most women, this would be a fantasy come true. For Kate Simon, this idyllic scene is her worst nightmare. Kate is hiding from her half-brother who is intent on marrying her off to get a portion of her inheritance. Posing as Mr. Kaden, a tailor's apprentice on his way to London, Kate is blindsided when the innkeeper forces a roommate, Mr. Christian Black, upon her. Too bad for Kate, Christian immediately sees through her paltry disguise and begins a teasing game of cat and mouse, a toying seduction, to find out her deep dark secrets.
Wouldn't it be romantic to be holed up in a cozy roadside inn during a blizzard with a brandy-voiced beauty to warm your bed? For most men, this would be a gentleman's idea of a perfect winter diversion. But for Christian Black, the Earl of Canley, being sidetracked by a mere slip of a woman in boy's garb is the last thing he needs. His goal is to retrieve a journal stolen from his friend by one of the guests at the inn. If the journal's content is published, many lives and reputations will be ruined. The last thing he needs is to get involved with Kate's problems, but involved, he becomes, as he gets to know his fragile yet strong roommate.
When the body of a murdered guest is discovered, Christian capitalizes on the situation to search for the journal. Declaring himself as a Bow Street Runner traveling incognito and Kate as his trusty assistant, they search the inn high and low for clues about the murder and for the journal. In their search to reveal the culprit, they each discover the true person hiding beneath the other's disguise and find out that their passion for each other can no longer be concealed.
The Earl of Her Dreams has it all - intriguing, engaging characters and witty dialog keep pace with mystery, action, and sensuality. Anne Mallory consistently delivers an enjoyable and absorbing read! This is Ms. Mallory's forth novel since her debut in 2004 with Masquerading the Marquess. Be sure to read this and her other books - you'll be happy you did!
