The Viscount's Wicked Ways
Avon
April 2006Anne Mallory
When Patience Harrington, a skilled antiquarian, but disastrous debutant, arrives at Blackfield Castle during a raging thunderstorm, her vivid imagination goes into overdrive as she admires the intricate wood and stone carvings of sinister beings designed to protect the ancient building. Her assignment is to catalog the extensive Ashe collection that is being donated to the London Museum, but she quickly becomes intrigued by the atmosphere of mystery within the castle. Although her first sighting of a vampire turns out to be only Thomas Ashe, the tenth Viscount Blackfield, when she overhears terrified servants whisper about monsters on the grounds, she is certain she has witness a creature in chains from her bedroom window. Vowing to discover the mystery behind the strange lights and sounds coming from the surrounding buildings, Patience sneaks through shadowed halls and grounds looking for clues, but is frustrated by the dark and brooding lord of the castle.
Thomas Ashe is keeping a secret, which if breached, would compromise national security. He has not the time or the patience for guests at the castle, but when he meets the outspoken Miss Harrington his interest is peaked until he finds out she is an antiquarian. He has no love for people who are devoted to the study of the past, but she is not what he expects. His closely guarded projects are drawing unwanted attention and he believes that the ever-curious Miss Harrington may be a spy for France. In order to keep the lovely, but socially clumsy Patience from stumbling upon his secrets, he decides to keep her close.a bit too close. Quickly he finds his attraction for the would-be spy is tying him up in knots. When it becomes clear that she is no more a traitor than he, he is forced to discover who else within the castle grounds may be the real spy for the enemy.
With The Viscount's Wicked Ways, Anne Mallory has proven that she can consistently deliver an excellent read. Her intrigues are as captivating as the scintillating romance between her hero and heroine. The Viscount's Wicked Ways is filled witty dialogue, fun characters, and plot twists that keeps the reader turning the page. Anne Mallory has written another must read. Bravo!
